ABOUT
Magandjin based soulstress Chelle Furness presents her six piece neo-soul band Sixth of the Sun.
With captivating three-part harmonies and R&B rhythms, their music dives heart-first into the grooviness of celebrating love and the sacred magic of grieving. Originating from Tshwane/Pretoria, South Africa, Chelle’s style is distinguished for its candid reconciliations with a history of immigration, chronic illness, and standing in the power of queer identity.
She is joined by instrumentalists Casey Glennen (electric bass), Daniel Booth (electric guitar) and Tyler Shilling (drums), as well as vocalists Rosa Mack and Melanie G.
Sixth of the Sun also performs in smaller combinations such as solo, duo, trio and quartet acts. In smaller formats, they lean into dreamy soundscapes, with nylon string classical guitar and lush vocal harmonies. The full-band lineup features danceable, funk-fuelled grooves and rhythmic electric guitar.

'Acrylic' live @ Tom's Place
A song about the golden moments of childhood that float away, out of our grip; inspired by the ghost of a memory of Chelle's mother singing her to sleep.
'Acrylic' refers to the paintings Chelle made on her childhood bedroom floor. Years after coming out and leaving home, she returned to the room to find the paintings had been scrubbed off of the floors.
